I called this company to help me move from my one bedroom 3rd floor apartment into a home. After speaking with a female employee over the phone, she came out to my home to access my furniture and quoted me a price of $175-or so I thought. The employee said that there was no need for me to sign any paperwork at that time. Big mistake.
I believe that most of the time, when an online review about a business is written, it is based off of a negative experience. This WILL be the case with this review. I read a prior review and or the record I will say that I've never worked for or have relatives that work for this company; I am not setting out to be intentionally malicious or have anything to gain by this negative review. This is my experience.
C&J Movers start off with 3 stars for being 45 minutes late. After calling their office twice and getting no response, I was actually looking in the phone book for another moving company when they finally knocked on the door. There was no apology, no explanation as to why they were late. So I think I am just in starting them off with 3 stars.
C&J movers were wonderful. I'm shocked to read the negative reviews and do believe someone must be a disgruntled employee. They arrived at my house at 8am after a 3 hour drive to ensure they were early. They packed up my very very full 3bed house and loaded it onto their truck and were done by 6:30 pm. They still had a 3 hour drive back. The owner meticulously inventoried every item, and never even took lunch. As someone earlier mentioned, he's in his 70s, and man, he's impressive. Highly recommend. Fantastic, professional, early, and meticulous. Everyone was very kind too.
My suggestion is that the company have customers sign something agreeing to the price beforehand and show up on time. Will I use this company again? No. Will I recommend to others? Heck no!
From the initial call for scheduling, these guys have been nothing but professional and efficient. Packed my 4 bedroom two story house in roughly 5 hours with only two personnel (Josh and Mr. Bobby) and no issues. Don't remember the receptionist's name but she made sure I had all the details plus a courtesy call 1 hour prior to the movers arrival. Excellent job. As of now, 5 stars. Will update after move is completed.
But my problem didn't stop there. After waiting over two weeks for the check to clear, I called the company to ask them about it. The female employee said she would ask her "account manager" about it and call me back. Two minutes later she called and said my check was in a desk and she had to remind them to deposit it. So my previous address and personal bank info was just sitting in someone's desk for over two weeks. Lord knows who could have gotten access to that information! I have years of experience working as a fraud specialist for one of the largest banks in TX so I know how dangerous that is; that account will be closed. That is not a small mistake; there is obviously some major dis-organization going on there. And that is why the company has one star. I would give them 1 and a half star for coming out to move my things on a Sunday after it had rained, but one star it is.
Okay. If there was an option for no stars is do it. Although the employees are great. Very polite and worked well. The boss! Horrible! Can't even believe the military has a contract with him! Continually late- by 2 hours. Yelling at me for leaving to get my 3 children lunch (30min tops) and then telling me that I'm not working with him but against him! Are you kidding me! So rude! I'm not the type of person to think bad of others but I think that he thinks he can push me around because my husband isn't present! BS! I will never let someone tell me what to do! Never! The military is paying you to get this move done! And done right! So just show up on time! Do your job! And shut it!
After the moving was done, which took a bit more than an hour, the male mover gave me an invoice that said $350 due. After advising them that price is not what I was told, he got on the phone with that female employee who said it was $175 an hour with a minimum of two hours. If I had known that at the beginning, there was no way I would have agreed to move my 10-13 pieces of furniture to a home that was 3 minutes away for that much. But I was tired and sick, so I didn't argue or cause a scene, I gave them the cash I had and wrote a check out for the rest and chalked it up to experience. With that they lost another star.
I totally disagree with the other review. I think she's mad because she no longer works there and couldn't get her job back. But the owner is strict and has been in the moving business since 1955. In his 70's he still manages to pack, ship, drive, haul and everything else he needs to for his company to thrive. The moving business is very fast paces and this companies deals with different agents and carriers, so yes sometimes things get tricky. But this company does its' best to keep shipment deliveries on time.
